I want to get my home organized. I am concerned that getting the rest of my family, especially my children, to participate will slow down the process. What should I do? |
This is one we see often. When it comes to getting children to participate, we find that making it fun for them is the best way to encourage getting organized. You can do this by turning it into a "makeover" project. Say to your child "let's makeover your room." Allow your child to make some of the decisions when it's comes to color and design. Allow them to paint and decorate shelves and boxes or containers. Making your child an active participant often makes them want to put things in their proper places. |

I want to preserve my wedding gown as best possible. How should I store it? |
Use acid-free paper to wrap your gown in. It is a good idea to preserve it in a container with a top. Have it cleaned before you put it away, and keep the container out of the sun. |
I never seem to have time to clean my home and I can not afford to have anyone clean it professionally. I am considering staying up later to get the cleaning done. Do you think this is a good idea? |
No. Staying up later to clean will eventually take its toll on you and you will end up adding more stress to your day. If late nights are turning out to be your only free time, we would suggest you take a look at your time management. List your daily activities and prioritize the list. Pay close attention to "time wasters" and focus on your needs. |
In my office I have a file cabinet that is far from my desk. Papers pile up on my desk and often do not make it into the file cabinet. What can I do? |
There are desktop filers that can hold 10-20 files at one time. We usually suggest using these for very active files or paperwork. |
I have just become engaged and we are trying to set a date. What should we focus on first? |
The date should depend on what other details you are considering like the colors you want, indoor or outdoor, and the size. Once you have a general idea of the presentation or look and feel you want, the date should be easier to set. |
Everywhere I look in my home there seems to be an area in need of organization. Where should I begin? |
Begin in an area you can see progress fastest, usually with a pile of paperwork or unopened mail. You do not want to discourage yourself by taking on an area too large too quickly. The key is staying motivated, and it is hard to do that when you feel overwhelmed. Start small, set goals and work in one area at a time. |
I work from home and I can never find household paperwork when I need it in my home office. What should I do to make it more easily accessible? |
Spillover of one area into another is common. The best thing to do is separate the two as much as possible. Keep a separate file cabinet or designate a drawer in a current file cabinet for household papers and bills. |
I am throwing a party for my husbands 55th birthday. I was going to give the party at our house, but now I am considering having it at a restaurant or banquet hall to avoid the hassle. Which is best? |
This really depends on the atmosphere you want, the size and budget. Parties at home are a wonderful idea, but not everyone is capable of pulling them off. I suggest you weigh all your possibilities carefully and determine which will make your guests most comfortable and you. |
